What is Logo? The Importance of Logo Design

written by Shayan

A logo is a graphic marker, logo, symbol, or stylized name used to identify a company, organization, product, or brand. It can take the form of abstract or image design, or it can be displayed in the style of the company name with sufficient brand awareness. Logos have become an integral part of the company’s brand identity. Widely used and immediately recognized logos are valuable intangible assets for businesses, so in most cases, their trademarks are designed to protect intellectual property rights.

The logo is designed to visually identify the company. A logo can contain a company name, or it can be just a visual sign. The company logo is usually affposted on any association with it: on the products it sells, advertisements, sponsorship agreements, or donations to charities. Logos are designed to quickly attract attention to companies.

Logos are designed to bring instant brand awareness, but some subtly retain hidden information that only Eagle Eye consumers can find. Consider the logo of FedEx, the parcel shipping company. Careful research of the logo shows that the negative space between the letters E and X shows an arrow, indicating the accuracy of delivery and forward-looking business dynamics. Another example is the Wendy’s logo.

The lines on the neckline of Wendy’s top spelled out the word “mom”, hinting at a sense of home. The use of colors is an important element in logo design. Because of the mechanism of human visual perception, color and contrast are essential for detecting visual details. The vast majority of consumers tend to have different colors and different color combinations with different meanings. In the United States, for example, red, white and blue designs evoke a sense of patriotism.

The creation of a logo requires careful planning and consideration, and once the logo is widely recognized, the company strictly protects its use because it is directly related to the company itself. Logos are intellectual property rights and are protected by trademark law.

The logo can be described as the face of the company. Often, this is the first thing potential customers will notice about your business. Logos are more than just images. This is a point of customer recognition and an important foundation for your company’s branding. It is often said that customers form opinions about a company within seconds. A well-designed logo is an easy way to communicate your business expertise to potential customers, trust it, and deliver quality goods or services.

Even if brand names are not integrated into the design, I think at least 99.99% of people on the planet can identify and name each brand. But hey, if your industry’s global visibility and global dominance aren’t good enough for you, here are a few reasons:

A Logo Grabs Attention

Logos quickly catch the attention of the audience and convey the company's core values in an interesting way. If you have an eye-catching logo to represent your company, a short period of attention (which, you will know, will cause consumers to judge your business based on its appearance) can benefit you.

Logo Design Makes a first strong impression

The logo is the first time a company has introduced a product to consumers. If it's designed right, it's going to interest the public and invite them to learn more about the company; if not, you're just alienating your potential customer base and basically killing your business. The first impression is how you immediately communicate ownership of the product you are selling or the lily you dominate.

Do you provide enhanced grip for women’s basketball? Is your financial advice helpful to entrepreneurs? Your logo introduces your company to your authority in the field of expertise from the start.

Logo Design is the foundation of your Brand

Successful branding is about telling a simple and simple story that will affect the mood of the customer. And while logo design is indeed part of the company's brand, it is the basis of the whole narrative on which the brand is based.

Successful branding is about telling a simple and simple story that will affect the mood of the customer. And while logo design is indeed part of the company’s brand, it is the basis of the whole narrative on which the brand is based.

Color, hue, font – all depend on the story you’re telling, and the logo lays the groundwork for that story. These elements are then converted from your logo to all your branding materials (including letterhead, business cards, landing pages, casually named) to create a specific, marketable brand identity.

Logo Design separates you from competition

Logos are different because your company logo tells consumers why your business is different. Sure, there may be 50 other coffee shops in your city, but your coffee shop is the only one dedicated to sustainability, and the green, earthy logo brings that information home.

The well-designed company logo can convey everything from the company background (professional, easy, fun) to its mission (entertainment, efficiency, and innovation) with the right icon or the right font. In other words, your logo is a forum that conveys your values and shows consumers why you don’t like competitors – better.

Placing logos on all marketing, packaging, products, social media, websites, etc. is a consistent way to promote brands and messages, whether in stores, in customers’ homes, online (i.e., wherever you are). If you have developed brand information and successfully associated it with the logo, everything you do and what you create is associated with the logo and brand.

David Airey’s 10 golden rules of logo design

When you think of someone who affects your life, you can almost certainly imagine his or her appearance. The same is true of brands from which we often buy. By considering our experience with products, companies, or services, we can easily add images to our logos.

There used to be only a few companies operating in a particular market or segment, and now there may be hundreds or even thousands of people competing for attention, and we want to focus on them first. This makes brands increasingly need to be visually differentiated so as not to be confused with competitors.

This difference is achieved through brand identity design, which is a series of elements that work together to form unique images in our mind. Depending on the company, the identity can include uniforms, vehicle graphics, business cards, product packaging, photographic style, coffee cups, billboard ads and many other items, depending on the font selection on the website.

It is important to remember that when we look at things, don’t read them first. Before we see the shape, we see the color, and if that’s enough to get our attention, then we’ll continue to read it. Therefore, in any case, the small but essential element of the brand image is the logo, regardless of the company.

When we look at something, we don’t read first. Before anything else we see shape, we see color, and if that’s enough to hold our attention, then we’ll read

As designers, our job is to refine the essence of the brand into the shapes and colors that are most likely to last, because visual appearance is essential to connect our brains with the people we experience. )。 In many ways, the company logo resembles the face of our loved ones.

If the correct logo is consistent with a great product and is in use for a considerable period of time, it will ultimately become a priceless asset for any company. Nike Cyclones, McDonald’s Golden Arches, Michelin Men, Mercedes’ Triangle Stars, Woolmark logos – these are just some of the more compelling examples.

In terms of identity design, a signature is a structured relationship between a logo, a trademark, and a slogan. ...... All of this becomes part of the brand element, with rules listed in the style guidelines followed by internal designers and employees.

But beyond their ubiquitous nature, how do you give logos the best chance of achieving similar status? Each successful logo project has some common features, and I’ve outlined some here to help improve the quality of the trademarks you create.

  1. Lay the foundation
  2. Cherish your drawing board
  3. Black and white work
  4. Keep it appropriate
  5. Designed to facilitate recalls
  6. Strive for difference
  7. Consider a broader range of identities
  8. Don’t be too rigid
  9. Remember that symbols are not required
  10. Make people smile

Research & Strategy

Before you can use a pen on any new logo design project on your pen, you must do an in-depth study. Here are five logo design tips to help you hold on to this critical first step.

Learn about your competition

Before even starting to conceptualized logo design concepts, make sure that you have thoroughly studied the target market. Your customers should be able to provide some information about their competitors to help them get started. Compare all the logos in its competing products. The study is likely to reveal some deep-rooted brand practices in the market, sometimes helping your processes by dealing with familiar visual associations.

Apple, like the butter of the 1980s, has made big strides in traditional computing and has since developed into one of the world’s most valuable brands

Keep in mind, however, that many of the world’s best-known logo designs stand out because they avoid trends and think differently.

Ask the right questions

In his book, Johnson cites Wolff Olins's Macmillan Cancer Support advertising-led brand, which was built around a series of "we..." statements that help answer key brand questions

Strategy is becoming an increasingly important part of the brand process. In fact, what this means usually depends on the size of the project, but it all starts with asking the right questions. Michael Johnson’s book, Branding in Five and a Half Steps, focuses on Johnson Banks’ creative process and covers complex challenges, such as developing a brand strategy that is much more detailed than we had hoped.

Be flexible during this process

n Branding, Johnson breaks down everyday brands into basic components, and through case studies we understand why we choose one product or service over another, and how seemingly subtle influences affect key life decisions.

Once you’ve developed your strategy, you don’t have to be static. There is an additional step in Johnson Banks’s creative process for a reason: the “and how we do it” section represents the grey area between strategy and design. According to Johnson, this could be a two-way street. When visualizing, some conceptual, strategic ideas that work in theory may disintegrate in practice. Conversely, compelling visual solutions that appear from the left-field during the design phase can be fed back to the second stage and help develop strategies retrospectively.

The mascot logo sounds like it - it's dominated by mascots or cartoon-style and interesting illustrated characters. This logo is a strong brand spokesman because it is usually the "brand spokesman" of the enterprise.

The so-called “retro brand” movement was re-launched by North’s acclaimed Co-op brand, which revitalized its original 1960s logo and, in the process, won one of the 2016 Brand of Dreams brand influence awards from Computer Arts magazine.

NatWest and Kodak followed suit over the next few months, and we’ve seen countless examples since then. Brands need to be careful about this, but avoid throwing babies away with bath water and thinking about standing out where they mark real heritage and unexpected potential.

See my advice on: How to wake up the brand heritage

Stephen Gilmore, Co-founder of North, said in a paper in Computer Arts: “It is vital to put the self aside, not to abandon designs created by others, taking into account evolution and revolution. “

Logos are just an ingredient

As Bruce Duckworth and Mark Bonner, judges of the Brand Impact Awards, discussed in this video filmed on Review Day 2016, logo design is only a small part of the modern branding process. As Bonner says, the pyramids are upside down: people now interact with brands through a variety of different touch points, and logos aren’t always the first thing they touch with brands.

When developing a logo design, keep this in mind: maintain versatility and flexibility, and consider how the logo interacts with other brand experiences, from packaging to tone.
